A groundbreaking ceremony is a symbolic event that marks the beginning of a construction project. They are typically held on the project's site and involve developers, politicians, and local officials using a shovel to dig the first ceremonial dirt. The local media, architects, developers, and community members typically attend these ceremonies.

The Sunset Community Centre is a recreational centre located in Vancouver, B.C. The Sunset Community Centre first opened in 1950 with fundraising efforts from the Sunset Community Association and contributions from the City of Vancouver. On November 15, 2004, the Park Board approved a proposal for a new community centre. This centre opened its doors to the public on December 17, 2007 and was designed by Bing Thom Architects and built by Haebler Construction Ltd.
