Description
Photograph of an unidentified individual standing next to a poster of Lord Krishna at a Diwali show organized by the Gujarati Society of British Columbia (B.C.).

Krishna is widely revered and worshipped as the eighth incarnation of the Hindu god Vishnu. Generally, Krishna is associated with love and protection. There is an abundance of representation in paintings and sculptures of Lord Krishna. The child Krishna (Balakrishna) is depicted crawling on his hands and knees or dancing with joy. The most common representation is that of Lord Krishna as a divine lover, playing the flute.

Deepavali, also known as Diwali, is a major religious festival celebrated by Hindus, Jains, and Sikhs, and translates to "the Festival of Lights." The festival lasts five days: the first day is known as Dhanteras; followed by Choti Diwali; Lakshmi Puja, which is the main celebration; Govardhan Puja; and finally Bhai Dooj. The festival is typically marked by the cleaning and decorating of homes, as well as the lighting of diyas and rangoli designs. Each region in India and religion has their own manner of celebrating Deepavali and their own gods to be worshipped.

Founded in 1969, the Gujarati Society of British Columbia is a non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to fostering community spirit by connecting and supporting both youth and seniors through events and activities, such as Diwali celebrations, Navrati festivals, and bhajans.
