John Nuraney, born in Kenya, immigrated to Canada from Zaire in 1974 after his assets and business were nationalized by the Zairian government in 1973. After settling in Vancouver, Nuraney worked as a commercial insurance agent and a commercial realtor until 1978. He earned the Vancouver Real Estate Board's Medallion Status in 1977. Nuraney was elected as MLA in the riding of Burnaby-Willingdon in the 2001 provincial general election. He was British Columbia's first Muslim elected to the provincial legislature. He served as a MLA for the B.C. Liberals from 2001-2009. He has also served on the Government Multicultural Caucus Committee, Asian Economic Development Committee and the Government Caucus Committee for Education. His volunteer and community service experience included the "Penny Harvest" project which he instigated, that feeds hungry children in Burnaby. Nuraney passed away in 2016 at the age of 79.

Incorporated in 1982, the Canada-India Business Council has works with businesses, not-for-profits, and government sections to grow business operations in Canada and India. It has served as a bi-national hub, a facilitator of prosperous business value, and a provider of high-quality environments for stakeholders to engage with. The Canada-India Business Council has hosted 22 events, 10 roundtables, and has engaged 700+ leaders.
