Photograph of people admiring the art at a Madhubani art exhibit at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, B.C.

Madhubani art, also known as Mithila art, originated from the Mithila region in Bihar, India and is recognized as an art form dominated by women artisans. It is characterized by its deep colours, historically made from local plants for their natural dyes. There are three main themes in Madhubani art: religion, social scenes, and elements of nature.

Established in 1915, the University of British Columbia consists of two campuses: one is situated within the ancestral and unceded territory of the Musqueam people, also known as Vancouver, B.C., and the other is on the traditional, ancestral, unceded territory of the Syilx Okanagan Nation and their peoples, also known as Kelowna, B.C. As of 2025, UBC is ranked second and third in Canada, and 38th, 41st, and 53rd in the world.
