Description
Photo of the 3-spot steam engine that was used in transport operations at Mayo Lumber Company. The engine is standing on the railway tracks on a siding beside the mill. The 3-spot engine is in complete condition with a spark arrestor installed in it.
Note
A spark arrester is a mechanical device that traps or destroys hot exhaust particles expelled from an internal combustion engine. Since spark arresters prevented many fires, laws were subsequently passed to require spark arresters on certain types of engines.
