Group of Sikh men in front of Sikh temple in Shanghai, China. The caption of the photograph reads "Shahidi Jatha from Canada and Shanghai to Jaito." The Shahidi Jatha groups were groups of dedicated Sikh men who went to Jaito via Shanghai to protest the colonial British government in India. In the photograph, the Sikh men are seen wearing garlands made out of marigold flowers to symbolize their dedication and willingness to fight until death. Some fighters were sent to convent colonies if captured. A group of men from Vancouver, Canada was sent along with this group to support the effort. There is a building visible in the back that has Sikh Temple Shanghai written on it.

Transcription of interview with Terry Gidda. Gidda is a Canadian citizen who came to Canada in 1968. He began working at Cattermole Timber Mill in Mackenzie, B.C. In part two of his interview Gidda discusses attending community celebrations including Diwali, Vaisakhi, and weddings. He also mentions making sweets and the building of a new gurdwara on Ross Street in Vancouver, B.C.

Transcription of interview with Terry Gidda. Gidda is a Canadian citizen who came to Canada in 1968. He began working at Cattermole Timber Mill in Mackenzie, B.C. In part one of his interview Gidda discusses his personal/immigration history, his experience working in sawmills, as a teacher, city councilor, and realtor. Gidda also discusses eating in cookhouses, his co-workers, and his hardships. He also mentions his time spent volunteering in the community. Gidda further discusses attending community celebrations including Diwali, Vaisakhi, and weddings. He mentions making sweets and the building of a new gurdwara on Ross Street in Vancouver, B.C.
