The figure is stooped and bearded and wears a work shirt, pants with suspenders, work boots and a wide-brimmed hat. The figure holds a double bit splitting axe in his right hand and holds a two-man crosscut saw in his left hand balanced over his left shoulder. White string is tied around the figure's left boot. The figure sits on a glass surface near a brick wall with a window.

Cut from the same piece of stone, the otter is polished and has a dark surface, while the rock is rough and notched and has a grey surface. A plaque is set into the rock portion of the statue with a dedication to the Doman Group from the Royal Bank of Canada. The statue sits on a wooden mantelpiece with some other Herb's other accolades, including the plaque presented to him by the Nanaimo Harbour Commission and a framed photograph of unidentified people holding autumn leaves.
